How to convert PDF text into an editable Word document
If you need to rewrite or reuse PDF text, an editable Word document can save retyping. FileKindly extracts text and builds a DOCX in your browser. It is intended for editable content, not an exact reproduction of the PDF layout.
Open the tool →Before you start
Try selecting a sentence in your PDF viewer. If no text can be selected, the page may be a scan and need OCR first. Tables, pictures, columns and exact positioning are not preserved by this converter.
Step by step
Choose the source PDF
Open PDF to Word using the button above and choose the PDF. If prompted, enter the password you use to open it.
Convert to Word
Choose Convert to Word and wait. The tool reads the PDF text, identifies headings and lists, and creates an editable document. Unusual layouts can need manual cleanup.
Download the DOCX
Download the result and open it in Microsoft Word or another DOCX editor. You can also upload it to Google Docs if you choose; that separate action sends the document to Google.
Compare and tidy up
Compare the DOCX with the PDF. Check reading order, headings, lists, names and numbers. Recreate tables and insert any pictures you need, since they are not carried over.
Save your edited version
Save the corrected DOCX with a new name. Keep the source PDF for reference, particularly if the original layout matters.
Example workflow
For a text-based meeting agenda, convert the PDF, check that the section headings and bullet points are in order, and edit the agenda in Word. A brochure with several columns and pictures will need more reconstruction.
Check your result
- All required text is present and in the correct order.
- Names, numbers and list numbering match the source.
- Missing tables and pictures have been recreated where needed.
Common questions
Why does the Word file look different?
PDFs describe positions on a page. This converter rebuilds editable paragraphs, headings and lists rather than copying those positions.
What if the result is blank or missing text?
Check whether the source pages contain selectable text. Scanned pages need OCR before text extraction; recognition errors still need proofreading.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. This conversion runs in your browser. Uploading the resulting DOCX to a cloud editor is a separate choice.
Need text recognition? Open Make a scan searchable (OCR) first.
